Zaleya galericulata subsp. australis
(Melville) S.W.L.JacobsProstrate or sprawling, somewhat fleshy herb with spreading or retrorse papillae on young stems and petioles. Leaves ovate, 1–4 cm long, 5–20 mm wide, often the pairs unequal; margins entire or shallowly sinuate; petioles 5–20 mm long, with broad, membranous margins at base. Flowers commonly in 7s, sessile or shortly pedicellate; bracts and bracteoles c. 1–2 mm long; perianth segments oblong, 2–3 mm long, enlarging slightly in fruit, pinkish on inner surface; stamens 5–12, shorter than or subequal to segments. Capsule obloid, the 2 halves of the upper part somewhat turret-shaped, 4–5 mm long, each half ridged or shortly 2-beaked at the rim of the flat or slightly concave apex; seeds globoid to subreniform, 1.5–2 mm diam., ridged dorsally. Flowers Feb.–Apr.
Also WA, NT, SA, Qld, NSW. Known in Victoria from only 3 collections (Donald, Wangaratta and Maffra), last collected in 1970. All collections from railyards and doubtlessly introduced with grain or stock from northern States.
