Rhizome short-creeping or erect, densely scaly, producing numerous lateral stolons. Stipe short, densely scaly at base; stipe and rachis grooved on upper surface. Fronds tufted; 1-pinnate. Pinnae sessile, articulated to rachis, lanceolate; lower pinnae sterile and widely spaced; fertile pinnae often narrower. Sori superficial or submarginal; indusium reinform to round.
About 30 species, mostly in south-east Asia, 9 in Australia, 1 naturalised in Victoria.
