Shrub to c. 2 m high; bark ultimately gnarled and somewhat flaky. Leaves ± circular, 4–7(–10) mm long and wide, thick, usually incurved or recurved, glabrous or minutely pubescent; apex recurved, usually shortly acuminate with a rounded or acute tip. Flowers 25–30 mm diam.; hypanthium 3–6 mm long, glabrous or with sparse short hairs, sometimes densely silky, sessile; sepals triangular to narrowly triangular, 3–4 mm long, usually glabrous, deciduous; petals 8–12 mm long, white or pinkish; ovary 5-locular, apex glabrous. Fruit persistent, hemispherical to broadly hemispherical, 8–12(–15) mm diam., surface ultimately shedding in papery flakes, valves woody; seeds 4–5 mm long, striate. Flowers Oct.–Dec.
EGL. Also naturalised in WA. Native to New South Wales, recorded once in Victoria near Club Terrace, plants presumably established from garden refuse.
