Perennial; sparsely scabrid-pubescent. Stems erect, often branched, 20–90 cm long. Leaves grass-like; cauline leaves sessile, linear-lanceolate, 40–90 cm long, c. 10 mm wide; basal leaves oblong-spathulate, petiolate. Inflorescence lax, few-flowered; bracts herbaceous. Flowers bisexual; pedicle 1–4 cm long; calyx ovoid, 6–10 mm long, green with 10 purplish coloured veins, more or less glabrous; calyx lobes broadly triangular; petal limb pink, deeply 4-lobed or broadly 2-lobed with the lobes emarginate, 12–15 mm cm long; styles 5. Capsule ovoid, 6–10 mm long, 5-toothed; seeds not seen.
CVU. Native to Europe, sometimes cultivated; known in Victoria by a 2003 collection from a roadside drain near Blackwood, originating from a nearby garden.
