Annual herbs; stems grooved or ridged, prostrate to erect. Leaves alternate, simple, entire; stipules 3–5-veined, partly fused to petiole. Inflorescence axillary, umbellate, 1–many-flowered; bracts minute; bracteoles absent. Calyx tube campanulate; teeth subequal; petals yellow, sometimes with red markings; standard ± orbicular, claw short; keel incurved, with a short beak, obtuse; stamens diadelphous, alternate filaments dilated above, anthers uniform; ovary sessile, style incurved. Pod indehiscent, jointed or continuous, coiled or twisted, with longitudinal ribs, sometimes spiny; seeds rugulose, exarillate.
3 species from the Mediterranean region and western Asia, 1 species naturalised in Australia.
