There are two subspecies, only the typical subspecies in Victoria. See profile under Zieria aspalathoides subsp. aspalathoides. Zieria aspalathoides subsp. brachyphylla J.A. Armstr. is a smaller-leaved plant with central leaflet only 2–3 mm long. This subspecies is restricted to the Blackdown Tableland in south-eastern Queensland.
