Foug. FirewheelAnnual herb 10–60 cm high; stems with antrorse, eglandular hairs. Leaves cauline, lanceolate to elliptic, 1–5(–12) cm long, 4–12(–35) mm wide, entire to pinnatifid, acute, surfaces with eglandular hairs and sessile glands, lower leaves petiolate; petioles to 5 mm long. Capitula 2.5–4 cm diam.; involucral bracts, 3-seriate, subequal or unequal, lanceolate, 6–11(–14) mm long; receptacle setae 1.5–3 mm long. Ray florets usually 8–14, rarely 0, funnel-shaped; ligules 10–20 mm long, red and yellow; disc florets 40–100, yellowish to purple or brown. Cypselas obpyramidal, 2–3 mm long, white with long antrorse hairs on lower half. Pappus of 6–8 scales, 4–5.5 mm long with an awn-like apex. Flowers and fruits throughout the year.
Also naturalised Qld. Native to the USA and Mexico. Known from two 1917 collections from Mildura. Occasionally cultivated.
