Tufted, shortly rhizomatous perennials. Ligule a fringe of hairs. Inflorescence a compact raceme. Spikelet 2-flowered, the lower floret male only; glumes 2, prominently nerved, hairy, longer than the florets; lower lemma resembling glumes; upper lemma and palea membranous and hyaline, not hardening at maturity.
7 species, from arid or semi-arid areas of Australia; 1 species in Victoria.
