Opercularia scabrida
Schltdl. Rough StinkweedAscending or erect herb or subshrub to 25 cm high, much-branched near base; branches somewhat quadrangular to terete, scabrous to shortly hairy. Leaves sessile, linear to narrow-oblanceolate, 8–30 mm long, 1.5–4 mm wide, apex acute and often uncinate, surfaces scabrous and often with scattered hairs particularly on the flat to slightly recurved margins. Inflorescences terminal 10–25-flowered spherical heads; peduncle 1–6 cm long, longer than subtending leaves. Flowers bisexual; calyx-lobes linear-triangular, 1–3 mm long, ciliate; corolla 2–3 mm long. Capsules dehiscing by a horizontal abscission layer; seeds compressed-ovoid, c. 1 mm long, transversely rugose. Flowers Aug.–Nov.
LoM, MuM, Wim, GleP, VVP, RobP, OtP, Gold, CVU, GGr, DunT, NIS, EGU. Also WA, SA. In Victoria mainly scattered in the far west, with more easterly records for Anglesea and the Brisbane Ranges. Often in heathland, woodland or mallee scrub.
