Taraxacum akteum
Hagend, Soest & Zevenb.Leaves broad-lanceolate 9–14 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, green, glabrous; lateral lobes in 2–4 pairs, triangular to deltoid; distal margins plane to sparsely toothed, proximal margins plane, incised almost to the midrib and thus with narrow interlobe areas; terminal lobe rounded-triangular to helmet-shaped in outline, the margins plane; petioles sparsely striated purple on green, unwinged, midrib mainly green. Scapes c. 9 cm long at anthesis, 25–29 cm long in fruit, woolly in bud but glabrous at maturity except just under the capitulum, entirely purple. Capitulum 2.5–3 cm diam., outer involucral bracts lanceolate, 8–6 mm long, c. 2 mm wide, patent to down-curved, narrowly but clearly white-bordered, apices dark, not callosed; innermost involucral bracts linear, c. 14 mm long, 1–1.5 mm wide, not callosed. Outer florets with a flat ligule exceeding the involucre by 3–5 mm, anthers with pollen, stigmas greenish-yellow. Achenes fusiform to turbinate, c. 3.3 mm long, 1 mm wide with straight spines less than 0.3 mm long at the apex, smooth to verrucate to the base, light brown, cone conical c. 0.3 mm long; beak 7–8 mm long. Pappus 5–6 mm long. Flowers and fruits Sept.–Apr.
VVP. Native to the Netherlands. Known in Victoria from lawns in suburban Melbourne.
