Inflorescence head-like, terminal, subtended by 2 distichous closely imbricate glume-like bracts; bracts with basal sheaths ± enclosing the inflorescence; secondary bracts hyaline, present or absent. Male flower 1 (rarely absent) inserted at the base of the inflorescence, with female flowers 1–many inserted distally; styles initially free, usually becoming fused with styles of other flowers.
About 25 species in Australia and South-east Asia; 19 species in Australia, 6 in Victoria.
