Dimorphotheca pluvialis
(L.) Moench Cape MarigoldAscending annual herb to 40 cm high; branches glandular-pubescent. Leaves densely pubescent, the lower ones narrowly obovate to oblanceolate, becoming linear-lanceolate upwards, 1–6(–7) cm long, 3–18(–25) mm wide, sinuate to shallowly pinnatifid, rarely entire, cuneate at base. Capitula solitary. Involucral bracts 12–18, c. 1-seriate, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, glandular-pubescent with scarious margins; ray florets 12–18, ligules 15–20 mm long, white above, purple below; disc florets yellow. Cypselas dimorphic, those of the rays obpyramidal, 4–6 mm long, tuberculate, those of the discs ovate, 6–8 mm long, with lateral wings. Flowers Aug.–Oct.
Also naturalised SA, NSW. Native to South Africa. Known in Victoria from two collections over 100 years old from Coode Island, Melbourne.
