Aristida calycina, A. jerichoensis and A. benthamii (not recorded for Victoria) are morphologically, ecologically and distributionally very similar, differing primarily in spikelet dimensions. All three include varieties with smooth or tuberculate margins to the ventral groove of the lemma. Detailed analysis of the characters and dimensions may suggest that the three species could be united. See key to species for defining characters for the two varieties of A. calycina and A. jerichoensis.
