Chrysocephalum semipapposum subsp. brevifolium
(Sond.) Paul G.WilsonErect perennial, several-stemmed from base, or often sub-shrubby. Stems and leaves glabrous or sparsely cottony (stems often densely cottony near base). Leaves of main stems linear to oblong, to 4(–6) cm long, 2 mm wide, both surfaces finally glabrous or the lower sparsely cottony; margins recurved or flat; leaves on axillary shoots and on upper parts of plant smaller (usually c. 1 cm long or smaller) and often subterete. Capitula solitary or few in small, dense corymbose conflorescence. Pappus of female florets with 3–7 pappus bristles. Flowers Nov.–Mar.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MuF, Gold, CVU, NIS, EGU. Also SA, NSW. Recorded from drier country, particularly in auriferous country of north-central and north-eastern Victoria (e.g. Wedderburn, Inglewood, Springhurst), but also in mallee areas of NW Victoria and near Bacchus Marsh.
The mostly short, glabrous and viscid leaves, often shrubby habit, and solitary or few-headed conflorescences are distinctive.
