Sigesbeckia australiensis subsp. australiensis
Erect herb to c. 80 cm high. Leaves lanceolate to elliptic, 3–9 cm long, 0.5–2.5 cm wide, surfaces sparsely pubescent with broad-based hairs and sessile glands, apex acute, base cuneate to attenuate, margins irregularly dentate; petiole to 1 cm long. Capitula 5–12 mm diam.; outer involucral bracts linear to oblanceolate, 4–7 mm long, densely pubescent with minute simple hairs; inner bracts boat-shaped, 2–4 mm long, pubescent with simple and sometimes also stalked glandular hairs; receptacle scales obovate, 2–3 mm long. Ray florets c. 8, ligules 1–2 mm long; disc florets 10–20. Cypselas 2–3 mm long, curved, ridged, black. Flowers mostly spring and summer.
VVP, VRiv, NIS, EGL, EGU, HSF, HNF. All mainland States. Regarded as introduced in Tas. Scattered mainly in drier inland habitats of eastern and north-eastern Victoria, often in open sclerophyll forests and woodlands, in shallow, often stony soils.
