Taraxacum polyodon
Dahlst.Leaves oblanceolate to lanceolate, (6.5–)18–27 cm long, 3.5–5 cm wide, mid-green, the adaxial lamina with a mixture of woolly hairs and tubercle-based short hairs; polymorphic during the flowering period: in the early flowering period lateral lobes in (2–)3 or 4 pairs, deltoid, distal margins mostly entire, proximal margins toothed, usually with a large acute lobule toward the midrib, not dissected close to the midrib and thus with broad interlobe areas; terminal lobe rounded triangular with up to 4 sharp teeth, much larger than the upper lateral lobes; in the later flowering period lateral lobes in 3 or 4 pairs, narrowly deltoid, distal margins plane to sparsely dentate, proximal margins usually toothed with a large acute lobule toward the midrib, dissected close to the mid rib thus with narrow interlobe areas which are often toothed or laciniate; terminal lobe triangular with up to 4 sharp teeth, smaller than or equal to the upper lateral lobes; petiole red, winged, midrib red basally grading to green distally. Scapes 10–23 cm long at anthesis, 21–53 cm long in fruit, woolly hairy in bud becoming glabrous at maturity, rarely hairy just under the capitulum, entirely red. Capitula 3–3.5 diam., outer involucral bracts lanceolate, c. 10–13 mm long, 3 mm wide, gently deflexed, narrowly but clearly bordered apices dark, not callosed; innermost involucral bracts linear, c. 20 mm long, 1–2 mm wide, not callosed. Outer florets with a flat to slightly involute lamina exceeding the involucre by 6–8 mm; anthers with pollen; stigmas greenish-yellow. Achenes fusiform 3.5–3.6 mm long, c. 1 mm wide with straight spines less than 0.3 mm at the apex, smooth to the base, grey-brown; cone conical 0.5–0.6 mm long; beak 5.5–7.5 mm long. Pappus c. 5 mm long. Flowers and fruits mainly Sept.–Apr.
