Lemma awnless; body of lemma glabrous and callus glabrous. Flowers Nov.–Feb.
VVP, VRiv, GipP, OtP, WaP, Gold, CVU, DunT, NIS, EGL, EGU, HSF, HNF, OtR, Strz, MonT, VAlp. Naturalised in all States except NT, Qld. Native throughout Europe and temperate Asia, widely naturalised. Occurs widely in cooler, high-rainfall areas of the State, often abundant along roadsides and in pasture (but not a particularly valuable pasture species). Occasionally used in seed mixes for soil stabilisation, particularly in the alps.
