3 subspecies, only the typical subspecies occurs in Victoria, see E. oppositifolia subsp. oppositifolia profile for description. Subspecies rubra (C.T. White & W.D. Francis) Chinnock from New South Wales and Queensland has broader, alternate leaves and cream or pink sepals, whereas subspecies angustifolia (S. Moore) Chinnock from Western Australia and South Australia has narrower leaves.
