Plants tufted, to 60 cm tall. Roots with plump tubers 1–2 cm long, 3–5cm distant from rootstock. Leaves ascending, narrow-linear, 15–50 cm long, 2–4 mm wide, channelled near base, subterete toward apex. Inflorescence erect, paniculate; umbels 1–8-flowered; perianth segments spreading, 7–19 mm long, mauve, fringe on petals 3–5 mm long; stamens shorter than perianth segments, inner 3 longer than the outer. Seeds ellipsoid c. 2 mm long and 1.5 mm wide.
