Formerly distinguished from D. coenicola F.Muell. but the two now included under the earlier name (D. divaricatissima). There are two varieties: var. macroctinia (Benth.) H.L.Stewart & N.G.Walsh is confined to Queensland. See D. divaricatissima var. divaricatissimafor profile of Victorian representatives of the species.
