Rumex stenoglottis
Rech.f.Vegetatively and in form and size of the inflorescence resembling R. dumosus, but fruiting valves narrower, to c. 1.5 mm wide (excluding teeth), narrow-triangular to c. oblong, 4–6 mm long, gradually tapered to the acute, sometimes slightly recurved tip, 1 (rarely 2)-toothed near the base; midrib swollen near base to form a low callosity on at least one valve. Flowers Sep.–Jan.
LoM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MuF, Gold, CVU. Also Qld, NSW. Known in Victoria by only 5 collections at MEL (Wyperfeld National Park, Tocumwal, Cressy, St Albans and an 1840 collection labelled 'Pyrenees' but doubtfully from that area).
The features of the fruiting valves distinguishing R. stenoglottis from R. dumosus (degree of taper, number of marginal teeth), at least in Victoria, appear insufficient to maintain R. stenoglottis at the species level. Among specimens at MEL determined by Rechinger, a more or less complete range of intermediate valve morphology between the two taxa is represented. The distribution of R. stenoglottis in this state (entirely within that of R. dumosus) suggests further that there are no significant ecological boundaries between the two taxa.
