Althenia preissii
(Lehm.) F.Muell. Slender Water-matPlants monoecious. Leaves not tapering distally; auricles 1.5–2 mm long; leaf margin entire; apex acute or acuminate. Female flowers with pedicel 0.5–1 (-1.5) mm long, not projecting beyond leaf-sheath; stigmas narrow, obliquely funnel-shaped, c. 0.2 mm long, margin irregular. Male flowers with scales 3-lobed; anther mass 6-locular; pedicel 3–5 mm long at anthesis. Fruit smooth, 2–2.5 mm long (excluding style); fruiting pedicel not extended, so fruit usually enclosed by leaf-sheath. Flowers Sep.–Feb.(–Apr.).
Wim, VVP, GipP, OtP, WaP, CVU, DunT. Also WA, SA, Tas. Occurs in shallow, saline and brackish water.
Often confused with Althenia cylindrocarpa (refer to that species).
