Psychrophila
Glabrous perennial herbs. Leaves rosetted or alternate, simple, with basal appendages. Flowers single; perianth lobes petaloid, 5–10, in a single whorl; stamens and carpels numerous, inserted on a flat disc; carpels free, with ovules attached along the inner suture; stigma sessile or on short style on each carpel. Fruits follicular, several to many, free, sessile or shortly stipitate.
About 12 species of mountainous or near-polar regions. Australian species were previously included in Caltha L. section psychrophila DC. However, they are now considered to be in a distinct genus, distinguished by their solitary flowers and leaves with inflexed basal appendages; 2 species endemic in Australia.
