Annual herbs, hairy; hairs simple and/or branched. Leaves simple, margins entire or toothed. Inflorescence an elongating raceme. Sepals erect to spreading, not saccate; petals deeply bifid; stamens 6. Fruit 1–6 times as long as broad, dehiscent, with partition across broadest diam.; style short, stigma capitate; valves with faint venation; seeds numerous, in 2 rows, minute.
10 species from Europe, Western Asia and North America, 1 naturalised in Australia.
