Prostrate or decumbent herbs or shrubs, usually perennial; stems usually pubescent. Leaves alternate, imparipinnate; leaflets many, entire; stipules small. Inflorescence an axillary raceme, rarely a solitary terminal flower; bracts persistent; bracteoles minute or absent. Calyx campanulate; teeth subequal, shorter than tube; petals red, pink, purple or yellow; standard suborbicular, obovate or olong, shorter than keel (in Victoria), erect, spreading or recurved, sessile or shortly clawed; wings ± oblong, often auriculate, clawed; keel straight or curved, usually auriculate; stamens diapelphous; anthers uniform; ovary stalked (in Victoria) or sessile, ovules 2–many, style curved, bearded, stigma terminal. Pod greatly inflated (in Victoria) or compressed, membranous, ± indehiscent; seeds reniform or flattened, usually without an aril.
