DC. Namakwa DaisyErect or procumbent annual or perennial herb to c. 40 cm high, ± glabrous. Leaves 1–5.5 cm long, 10–25 mm wide, 1–2-pinnatisect with linear, acute lobes. Capitula hemispherical, 2–4 cm diam.; involucral bracts lanceolate to ovate, 3–8 mm long, 6-seriate. Ray florets 15–25, neuter, often with long glandular hairs, yellow or orange or rarely whitish; ligules 13–16 mm long, usually purplish-brown below; disc florets yellow with black or purplish lobes, enveloped by a receptacle scale; receptacle scales linear, those of outer disc florets with circular terminal appendages. Cypselas angular, c. 2.5 mm long, 5-ribbed, glabrous, straw-coloured, brown or light-red with lighter coloured ribs; pappus of an outer series of 5 white obovate scales 4–6 mm long and an inner series of 5 bristle-like scales. Flowering in Victoria recorded from June to October.
Naturalised in WA, SA. Native to southern Africa.
Known in Victoria from two collections made over 100 years ago from Coode Island in Melbourne. This population was poisoned and does not appear to have persisted.
